Sapphire hair transplant is a highly effective and minimally invasive surgical procedure involving the popular FUE technique and new medical devices. Thanks to applied technology that drives this diversification of innovative hair transplant techniques and hair loss treatments, field experts now recognize two different FUE techniques – sapphire FUE and classic FUE.
Both techniques rely on blades to extract hair from a donor site (usually the back of the neck) using a micro motor and micro punch. That’s what the acronym FUE stands for – Follicular Unit Extraction. Over the last couple of years, the FUE technique has been repeatedly described as the most modern and commonly used hair transplant technique. Up until recently, this referred to the classic FUE method.

The sapphire hair transplant technique revolutionized both the FUE method and the hair transplant industry. The main difference between this technique and the classic FUE is the type of blade used for transplanted hairs. Instead of traditional steel blades, the sapphire technique uses blades made from sapphire. The addition of precious gemstone helped make the incisions more delicate and more precise.
The choice of the material affects the shape of the blade and, thereby, the overall result of the hair transplant procedure. Unlike the traditional steel blades, which are U-shaped, the sapphire blades have a V-shaped pin that is much sharper. The sharper the blade pin, the more accurate the incision, which helps hair transplant surgeons achieve smaller channels without scars.
